In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha convened a meeting to discuss the arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. The annual pilgrimage, set to commence on July 3rd, holds immense significance for devotees of Lord Shiva. Recognizing the Yatra's importance, the administration is making comprehensive preparations to ensure the comfort and safety of the pilgrims.
The meeting in Srinagar saw the participation of various stakeholders, including civil society members, religious leaders, District Development Council (DDC) chairpersons, representatives from trade and business associations, and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was also present at the interaction held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC).
During the meeting, Lieutenant Governor Sinha briefed the attendees on the elaborate security and logistical measures being implemented for the Yatra's smooth and safe execution. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts to maintain the sanctity of the pilgrimage and ensure the well-being of all devotees. Stakeholders assured their full support for the Yatra, acknowledging that the pilgrimage belongs to the people as much as to the administration and the Shrine Board.
Lieutenant Governor Sinha highlighted the improvements made to facilities for the pilgrims, despite challenging weather conditions and difficult terrain. He also acknowledged the dedicated service of the people of Jammu and Kashmir involved in the Yatra.
Security is a top priority, with multi-layered arrangements in place. More than 180 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in the Jammu region. Security drills are being conducted across various locations, and officers are instructed to intensify night patrols and maintain close coordination with intelligence agencies. All Amarnath Yatra routes have been declared 'no-fly zones' between July 1 and August 10.
DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma of the Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range has detailed a multi-layered security plan to ensure a secure and seamless pilgrimage. The security framework involves coordinated efforts among the police, CRPF, and other agencies. The first batch of pilgrims will depart from Bhagwati Nagar on July 2.
Pilgrims planning to undertake the Amarnath Yatra 2025 need to register on the official website of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) or the designated registration portal. They must have the necessary documents and pay the registration fee within the specified timeframe. It is also essential to make travel arrangements and book accommodations in advance. Undertaking regular exercise and undergoing a medical check-up are recommended to ensure physical fitness for the journey.
The Amarnath Yatra 2025 is expected to commence on June 29th and conclude on August 9th. The Yatra will proceed via the traditional 48-km Pahalgam route and the shorter 14-km Baltal route. The first batch of pilgrims will leave for Kashmir from the Jammu-based Bhagwati Nagar base camp a day before the Yatra starts. Medical camps and first-aid stations will be set up at regular intervals along both routes, with emergency oxygen cylinders, mobile health units, and air evacuation services available.
