NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) has announced that Naushad Moosa has signed a contract extension, securing his position with the club as Technical Director until the end of the 2027 season. The 53-year-old previously served as the first-team assistant coach and head coach of the reserve team.
Moosa's journey with NEUFC has been marked by his commitment to developing young talent. As assistant coach, he has worked alongside head coach Juan Pedro Benali, contributing to the growth of players like Fredy Chawngthansanga and Macarton Nickson. Both players have recently signed contract extensions with the club, with Chawngthansanga staying until 2027 and Nickson until 2028, highlighting the club's focus on building a strong core for the future. Nickson has acknowledged the role of both Benali and Moosa in his development over the past two years.
Moosa's expertise extends beyond club football, as he has also returned as the head coach of the India U-23 squad. Tasked with preparing the team for the upcoming Asian Games and the AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers, Moosa emphasizes the importance of providing young players with sufficient playing time to foster their development. He has also expressed the need for longer training camps to thoroughly assess players and opponents, aiming to bring the best out of the squad.
NEUFC's commitment to youth development is further demonstrated through their collaboration with the Guwahati Sports Association for the Guwahati Youth & Kids League. This initiative aims to nurture young talent at the grassroots level, providing a platform for players aged 7 to 13 to develop their skills. Moosa, along with other NEUFC representatives, has actively participated in events related to the league, underscoring the club's dedication to fostering football at all levels.
