Lando Norris secured a thrilling victory at the Austrian Grand Prix, leading McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri to a dominant one-two finish. The race, held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, was the eleventh round of the 2025 Formula One World Championship. Norris's victory marks his third win of the season and his first since the Monaco Grand Prix last month.

The race began with drama as Max Verstappen, starting from seventh on the grid, was taken out by Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli on the opening lap. Antonelli locked his brakes going into Turn 3, colliding with Verstappen and ending both their races prematurely. This incident marked the first time since the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix that neither Red Bull driver scored a point.

Norris, who started on pole position, maintained his lead into Turn 1. However, he faced intense pressure from Piastri throughout the race. Piastri made several attempts to overtake, even briefly taking the lead at one point, but Norris quickly reclaimed the position. A particularly close call occurred at Turn 4 when Piastri locked up his brakes and narrowly avoided colliding with the back of Norris's car. Despite the close racing, McLaren allowed their drivers to battle for the win.

After the near-miss, Piastri extended his first stint, hoping to gain an advantage later in the race. While Piastri showed strong pace in the second and third stints, Norris maintained a slight edge, ultimately securing the victory. Norris crossed the finish line just 2.695 seconds ahead of Piastri.

Behind the McLarens, Charles Leclerc finished third, securing a podium finish for Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton followed in fourth, making it a fruitful day for the Ferrari team. George Russell finished fifth, as the only Mercedes driver to finish the race. Liam Lawson capitalized on his top-six grid position to finish sixth for Racing Bulls. Fernando Alonso finished seventh for Aston Martin, followed by Gabriel Bortoleto in eighth, who scored his first Formula One points. Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Ocon rounded out the top ten.

Several drivers faced challenges during the race. Pierre Gasly struggled with balance issues and dropped out of the points. Lance Stroll was unable to convert his strong practice pace into a good result. Franco Colapinto received a five-second time penalty for forcing Piastri off the track, but it did not affect his final position. Carlos Sainz Jr. was unable to start the race due to a mechanical issue. Yuki Tsunoda struggled with pace and finished near the back of the field.

The McLaren one-two finish significantly impacted the championship standings. Piastri's lead in the Drivers' Championship has been cut to 15 points over Norris. McLaren leads the Constructors' Championship with 374 points, ahead of Ferrari and Mercedes. The Austrian Grand Prix highlighted McLaren's strong performance and their drivers' ability to compete at the highest level.
