Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted uncertainty regarding the potential impact of the Club World Cup on his team's Premier League performance. As the team prepares to face Al-Hilal in the Club World Cup's last-16 in Orlando, Guardiola acknowledges the challenges the tournament could pose.

Other prominent figures in the soccer world have voiced their concerns about the Club World Cup's potential strain on teams. England manager Thomas Tuchel suggested that Manchester City and Chelsea's participation in the tournament could give their rivals, such as Liverpool and Arsenal, an advantage in the Premier League title race. Jurgen Klopp, former Liverpool boss, has been a vocal critic, describing the event as "the worst idea ever implemented in football" due to worries about player welfare.

Despite these concerns, Guardiola insists that his team is primarily focused on rediscovering their best form after a somewhat disappointing 2024-25 season and aiming to win the Club World Cup. He emphasized the importance of relaxing, enjoying the competition, and striving for victory. Guardiola stated that his main objective is to help the team rediscover the competitive spirit they have displayed over the past eight to nine years.

Looking ahead, Guardiola acknowledges the uncertainty surrounding the potential consequences of the Club World Cup. He recognizes that the team might face exhaustion in the later months, potentially impacting their performance. However, he remains optimistic, stating that they will rest for the time that the Premier League allows them. Guardiola conceded that he doesn't know if Manchester City's next Premier League challenge will be "destroyed" by their Club World Cup campaign or not.

Guardiola also addressed the recurring issue of weather problems at the tournament, including intense heat and thunderstorms. He humorously admitted his inability to control lightning and thunder, stating that he would seek shelter if necessary and resume play when possible. He also said that he grew up understanding not to be worried about the situations that he can't control so it is not a problem.

Ultimately, Guardiola recognizes the validity of Klopp's concerns, especially given Klopp's role with a team involved in the tournament. However, he also hinted at the possibility of jealousy motivating some complaints. As Manchester City embarks on their Club World Cup journey, the team remains focused on the present while acknowledging the potential challenges that lie ahead.
