A shocking case has emerged in Kerala, where a live-in couple has been arrested for allegedly killing their two newborn babies. The couple, Bavish, 25, and Aneesha, 23, are under investigation after Bavish walked into the Pudukad police station in Thrissur on Sunday, carrying a bag containing the skeletal remains of two infants.
Bavish, reportedly intoxicated, claimed to the police that the bones were of his children with Aneesha. He stated that they had kept the remains to perform rituals for the babies' souls to attain "moksha". This sparked an immediate investigation by the Kerala police, leading to the arrest of both individuals.
According to police reports, Bavish and Aneesha met on Facebook in 2020 and soon started a relationship. They had intended to marry, but their plans did not materialize. The investigation revealed that the first baby was born in November 2021. Aneesha initially claimed the baby died naturally when the umbilical cord wrapped around its neck during birth. However, she later confessed to suffocating the newborn shortly after birth. The baby was then buried near her house. Eight months later, she allegedly dug up the remains and handed them over to Bavish.
The couple's second child was born in August 2024. Fearing social stigma, Aneesha allegedly killed this newborn by smothering him. Bavish then buried the body in his house compound. According to the police, Bavish exhumed those remains approximately four months later, purportedly to perform rituals. He then hid them in an almirah in his house.
The case came to light due to growing tensions between the couple, including Bavish's suspicion that Aneesha was seeing someone else and his discovery of a second mobile phone she owned. Some reports suggest that Bavish kept the skeletons to maintain control over Aneesha. It was after these tensions that Bavish approached the police with the remains, exposing the alleged crimes.
Police are investigating whether Aneesha's family was aware of her pregnancies and the births. Forensic tests have confirmed that the remains are indeed those of two infants. DNA tests will be conducted to confirm the parentage of the babies. The couple has been charged with murder, concealing evidence, and other offenses under the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice Act. A special investigation team has been formed to further investigate the case.
