India's cricket team is strategically assessing Jasprit Bumrah's fitness and workload for the second Test against England, which begins on July 2nd at Edgbaston. After a loss in the first Test, the team is carefully considering Bumrah's role in the upcoming matches.

Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has confirmed that Bumrah is fit and available for selection. However, the final decision regarding his participation in the Edgbaston Test is still pending. The team management is weighing several factors, including match conditions and Bumrah's workload, before making a final call.

Bumrah's fitness is a significant advantage for India, particularly after the team's pace attack struggled in the first Test. Ten Doeschate emphasized that Bumrah has no injury concerns and is fully fit. The focus is on managing his workload throughout the series. Bumrah has been actively participating in training sessions, with videos circulating online showing him bowling at full speed.

Despite Bumrah's availability and fitness, India's coaching staff are said to have planned for him to only play three of the five Test matches. This strategy aims to balance immediate needs with the long-term goals of the series. The team recognizes the importance of strategic planning to ensure Bumrah is available when he is most needed. Ten Doeschate noted that it is tempting to play Bumrah, but the team believes they can level the series or maintain the score without him. He added that the team will decide when to deploy their strongest assets.

If Bumrah is selected and performs well at Edgbaston, he could achieve a personal milestone. A successful performance could see him equal Wasim Akram's record of 11 five-wicket hauls in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia). Bumrah currently has 10 such hauls.

The decision on Bumrah's participation will be made shortly before the match begins. Ten Doeschate stated that the team would determine how to manage Bumrah in the next 24 hours, considering weather and pitch conditions. The coaching staff will also assess the workload of the other bowlers before making a final decision.
