India, Leading the Pack, Gears Up to Experiment Against Iraq in Anticipation of Future Challenges

India's women's football team is gearing up for a Group B clash against Iraq in the AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers, with the Blue Tigresses currently leading the table. The match presents an opportunity for India to experiment with their lineup and tactics.

India currently holds the top spot in Group B with six points, having secured victories against Mongolia and Timor-Leste, boasting a goal difference of 17. Thailand is close behind in second place, also with six points but a smaller goal difference of 11. Iraq has played three games, securing four points. Coach Crispin Chettri has emphasized that the primary focus is on securing three points against Iraq, rather than solely focusing on increasing their goal difference. While a race with Thailand to boost goal difference looms before their final-day encounter, the immediate priority is the match against Iraq.

The Blue Tigresses are considered likely to win their match against Iraq. India will aim to maintain their top position in the group. Iraq, currently ranked 173rd in FIFA rankings, will be looking to recover from their defeat against Thailand.

In team news, winger Soumya Guguloth will miss the game due to a nasal bone fracture sustained during the match against Timor-Leste. The rest of the Indian squad is fit and available for selection. Manisha Kalyan will likely pose a significant threat to the Iraqi defense.

This upcoming match marks the first time India and Iraq will face each other in the Asian Cup Qualifiers. Both teams are aiming for a win to enhance their chances of qualifying for the Asian Cup.
