In a recent trade announced on July 1, 2025, the St. Louis Blues acquired defenseman Logan Mailloux from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Zachary Bolduc. The move sees two former first-round picks heading to new organizations as they look to further their NHL careers.

Logan Mailloux, 22, is a 6-foot-3, 213-pound defenseman who has spent time with both the Canadiens and their AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket. During the 2024-25 season, Mailloux played seven regular-season games with the Canadiens, recording four points (two goals, two assists). He also led the Rocket defense with 33 points (12 goals, 21 assists) in 63 regular-season games. Mailloux has represented Laval at the AHL All-Star Game for two consecutive seasons and was named to the AHL's Top Prospects Team. In his AHL rookie season in 2023-24, he ranked third on the Rocket with 47 points (14 goals, 33 assists) and was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team. Prior to his professional career, Mailloux played for the OHL's London Knights, where he tallied 53 points (25 goals, 28 assists) in 59 regular-season games and 24 points (eight goals, 16 assists) in 21 postseason games in 2022-23. He led the OHL in goals for a defenseman that season and earned OHL Second All-Star Team honors. Mailloux was originally drafted by the Canadiens in the first round, 31st overall, of the 2021 NHL Draft.

Zachary Bolduc, 22, is a forward who was originally drafted by the Blues with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. In 97 career games with the Blues, Bolduc recorded 45 points (24 goals, 21 assists) and 43 penalty minutes. During the 2024-25 season, Bolduc scored 19 goals and 17 assists for 36 points in 72 games. He also had two assists in four appearances for the AHL's Springfield Thunderbirds. Bolduc ranked fourth among NHL rookies in goals and led all first-year players in differential (plus-20).

The St. Louis Blues' acquisition of Mailloux brings a promising young defenseman into their system. Mailloux's size, offensive capabilities, and experience in both the AHL and NHL make him a valuable asset. His addition could bolster the Blues' defensive depth and provide a boost to their offensive game from the blue line.

For the Montreal Canadiens, the acquisition of Bolduc adds a talented young forward to their roster. Bolduc's scoring touch and playmaking abilities could provide a spark to the Canadiens' offense. His experience in the NHL and AHL should allow him to contribute to the team's success immediately.
