Shubman Gill has been making headlines in the ongoing Test series against England, etching his name in the record books with his impressive batting performances and captaincy. The young Indian captain has been emulating feats of cricketing legends like Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli, while also achieving milestones unique to himself.

In the second Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham, Gill scored his second consecutive century of the series, reaching his 7th Test century overall. This feat made him the fourth Indian to score hundreds in his first two matches as Test captain, joining Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, and Virat Kohli in an elite list. Gill's innings of 114 not out on Day 1 helped India reach 310/5 at stumps, demonstrating exceptional leadership under pressure.

Gill's recent form has been remarkable, with his last two Test centuries against England coming in Leeds (2025) and Dharamshala (2024). He is also the fifth Indian player to score three straight tons in Test cricket against England, joining Mohammad Azharuddin, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Rahul Dravid.

Furthermore, Gill has become only the second Indian captain to score centuries in both the first and second Tests in England. He is also just the ninth visiting captain to achieve this feat, alongside cricketing greats such as Don Bradman, Garfield Sobers, and Graeme Smith.

In addition to his batting records, Gill also broke a 57-year-old record by becoming the youngest Indian to lead the team in a Test match on English soil. He is also the first Indian in the 21st century to achieve this feat. Gill has now become the third Indian cricketer to score the most runs in his debut Test match as captain.

However, Gill has faced some criticism regarding his captaincy, with former head coach Ravi Shastri suggesting he be more proactive. Despite this, Gill's leadership and batting prowess have been instrumental in India's performance in the series.

Shubman Gill, born on September 8, 1999, has quickly risen through the ranks to become a key player in the Indian national team. He captains the India Test team and vice-captains the ODI side. Gill also holds the record for being the fastest player to reach 2000 runs in 38 innings and 2500 runs in 50 innings in ODI cricket. In February 2025, Gill became the first Indian cricketer to hit a century in all three formats at the same venue, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He is also the fastest batter to reach 2500 ODI runs, shattering Hashim Amla's record.
