During his address to the Namibian Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the power of the Constitution, drawing parallels with India's own journey. He stated that "When you have nothing, the Constitution gives you everything". Modi highlighted how India's Constitution has empowered individuals from marginalized backgrounds, citing the example of a woman from a poor tribal family becoming the President of India and his own rise from humble beginnings to becoming Prime Minister for a third time.
Modi congratulated Namibia on electing its first female president and commended the country's inclusive constitution, which empowers diverse citizens. He noted that both India and Namibia are guided by their constitutions to uphold equality, liberty, and justice.
The Prime Minister underscored India's commitment to a partnership with Africa based on equality and dialogue, not dominance. He announced India's USD 12 billion development partnership focused on skill-building and job creation in Africa. Modi stressed that Africa should not be just a source of raw materials but should lead in value creation and sustainable growth. He urged India and Africa to work together to create a future defined by partnership, dialogue, and equity.
Modi also highlighted the strong historical ties and growing trade between India and Namibia. He expressed optimism about the future of bilateral trade, stating that it has already crossed $800 million and is poised for further growth.
Furthermore, Modi paid tribute to Namibia's first President and founding father, Sam Nujoma, acknowledging his significant contribution to the nation. He emphasized the shared responsibility of defending the hard-earned independence and building a prosperous future for both India and Namibia.
