Gurugram faced a deluge of heavy rainfall, prompting the district administration to issue an advisory recommending that corporate offices and private institutions allow their employees to work from home on July 10, 2025. The decision was made to prevent potential traffic congestion caused by waterlogging in several areas of Delhi NCR.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an Orange Alert for Gurugram, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall. In the past 12 hours, Gurugram city recorded 133 mm of rainfall, including an "extremely intense spell" of 103 mm within just 90 minutes. The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) emphasized the importance of avoiding traffic congestion in its advisory.
The heavy downpour led to waterlogging in multiple parts of Gurugram, causing traffic jams and vehicle breakdowns. Commuters were advised to avoid MG Road, Sohna Road, Golf Course Extension Road, Gurugram-Faridabad Road, Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), Sector 10, and the stretch between Hero Honda Chowk and Subhash Chowk.
In addition to the work-from-home advisory, many schools in the district opted for online classes in response to the severe weather conditions. The decision was taken considering the safety and well-being of students, as commuting could be challenging and risky due to waterlogged streets and potential traffic disruptions.
The current weather in Gurugram is cloudy with a 5% chance of rain. The temperature is 83°F (28°C), but it feels like 93°F (34°C) due to 83% humidity. The forecast for the next few days predicts continued rain, with a 25% chance of light rain today and a 35% chance of scattered thunderstorms tomorrow. The weather forecast indicates a 75% chance of heavy thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday.
