Rio Ferdinand: Manchester United Must Act Decisively in Pursuing Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo Transfer.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has issued a strong warning to the club regarding their pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, stating that the Red Devils risk embarrassment if they fail to secure the player's signature this summer. Ferdinand's comments come amidst ongoing negotiations between Manchester United and Brentford, with the two clubs seemingly at odds over the player's valuation.

Manchester United have reportedly been in talks with Brentford for over a month, with the aim of bringing the Cameroonian international to Old Trafford. However, despite tabling two bids, they are yet to reach an agreement with the Premier League side. An initial offer of £55 million was rejected in early June, followed by a second bid understood to be worth more than £60 million. While it was believed the second offer would be enough to secure Mbeumo, Brentford have since "moved the goalposts," prolonging the discussions. It has been reported that Brentford are holding out for a sum closer to £70m. United, however, are reluctant to overpay for Mbeumo, even after a remarkable season where he scored 20 Premier League goals.

Ferdinand, speaking on his Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel, stressed the importance of United finalizing the deal. He stated that if the transfer saga drags on until the end of the window without a successful outcome, it would be an "egg-on-the-face situation" for Manchester United, unless they have a suitable alternative lined up. Ferdinand questioned whether United have another target in mind, as no other names have emerged as potential replacements.

Ferdinand believes that Mbeumo is an ideal fit for Manchester United, citing his physicality, dynamism, Premier League experience, and goal-scoring ability. He also alluded to reports that Mbeumo has expressed his desire to join Manchester United, potentially giving them an advantage in negotiations. "Mbeumo has told Tottenham, he's told Brentford that he only wants to join Manchester United," Ferdinand said.

Despite the ongoing deadlock, Ferdinand remains optimistic that the deal will eventually go through. He highlighted the fact that United have publicly pursued Mbeumo, suggesting they are now in a position where they need to complete the transfer. United will be aiming to finalize the deal for Mbeumo before they kick off their US tour with a game against West Ham in New Jersey on July 26th.

Brentford's director of football, Phil Giles, acknowledged the possibility of Mbeumo leaving this summer if the right offer is received. However, he also indicated that Mbeumo could stay at the club if an agreement is not reached, as his contract runs until next summer, with an option for an additional year.
