A Congress functionary, Anil Marelli, was shot dead in Telangana's Medak district on Monday night. The incident occurred near Varikuntam X road in Kulcharam mandal around 8:30 pm. Marelli Anil was the Medak District Congress SC Cell Secretary.

According to Sub-Inspector Mohd Ghouse of Kolcharam, Marelli was followed from Hyderabad. The assailants, who were in two cars, stopped Marelli's vehicle and opened fire. Initial reports suggested that Marelli crashed his vehicle while attempting to escape. However, doctors later discovered four bullet wounds on his body. He died on the spot. The body has been shifted to the hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. Preliminary investigations suggest that Marelli was involved in the real estate business and may have had land disputes with the accused. Efforts are underway to trace the accused.

This is the second such incident in Telangana in two days. Earlier on Tuesday, unidentified assailants shot dead a CPI leader, K Chandu Naik, in Malakpet. Police suspect that previous enmity stemming from a land dispute was the motive behind Chandu Naik's murder. Chandu Naik was an accused in a murder case registered in 2022.

CPI Telangana unit secretary and MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao condemned the murder of Chandu Naik and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits. Chandu Naik's brother has filed a complaint with the police naming six people.
