In a successful joint operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Amritsar Police have foiled a cross-border smuggling attempt near Chak Bala village. The operation resulted in the recovery of a drone and a significant cache of arms and ammunition.
The recovered items include pistols, grenades, live cartridges, RDX, and drone components. This successful interception highlights the ongoing efforts by security forces to prevent the illicit trafficking of weapons and explosives into India. Authorities are currently conducting an investigation to identify the network and individuals involved in this smuggling operation.
The BSF has been actively deploying technical countermeasures to thwart drone intrusion attempts across the border. These efforts, in collaboration with the Punjab Police, have led to the successful recovery of drones, arms, and narcotics in recent operations.
In April 2025, the BSF and Punjab Police conducted a series of joint operations based on intelligence inputs, resulting in multiple seizures. These operations led to the recovery of damaged DJI Mavic 3 Classic drones, pistols, magazines, and heroin from fields in the Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts. In one instance, a drone was found along with a pistol and a magazine in a harvested field near Daoke village in Amritsar district. Another operation resulted in the retrieval of 550 grams of suspected heroin near Wan village in the Tarn Taran district.
These recoveries underscore the relentless efforts of the BSF and Punjab Police to disrupt cross-border smuggling and dismantle anti-national networks. The use of drones for smuggling arms and narcotics across the border has become a growing concern, prompting increased vigilance and proactive measures by security agencies. The robust technical counter-measures deployed on the border and diligent efforts of BSF troops along with Punjab Police have thwarted yet another smuggling attempt and intrusion of illicit drones from across the border.
