Recent news cycles have been dominated by several key events, ranging from a tragic aviation disaster to political developments in Bihar and Jammu & Kashmir, and a shocking incident of violence. NDTV 24x7 has been covering these stories extensively, providing updates and analysis.

The aviation sector is in mourning following the Air India Flight 171 crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, bound for London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff, killing 241 of the 242 passengers and crew, along with 19 people on the ground. A preliminary investigation by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) revealed that both engines shut down mid-air within seconds of takeoff, and the fuel cutoff switches moved from "RUN" to "CUTOFF" position almost simultaneously. This cut off the fuel supply to the engines, causing the plane to lose thrust.

The report has sparked intense debate, with aviation experts and the media dissecting the possible causes of the crash. Theories range from mechanical failure to the possibility of deliberate human action, including pilot suicide. The cockpit voice recorder is expected to provide crucial insights into the final moments of the flight. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities urging the public not to jump to conclusions.

Meanwhile, Bihar is gearing up for elections, and the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists has stirred controversy. A door-to-door survey has revealed that many residents originally from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar have allegedly obtained Indian documents through illegal channels. The Election Commission plans to conduct a verification drive in August to exclude these names from the final voter list.

The opposition has raised concerns about the timing of this exercise and whether it can be completed before the elections. They also fear that genuine voters may be disenfranchised during the verification process. The Election Commission maintains that the revision is necessary to ensure the integrity of the electoral rolls. The opposition, however, alleges that this is an attempt to deny people their right to vote.

In Jammu & Kashmir, political tensions remain palpable. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah claimed he was placed under house arrest shortly after returning from Delhi. Abdullah posted images on social media showing a heavy police presence outside his residence. While authorities have not confirmed an official detention, the incident has raised concerns about political freedom in the region. Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha, spoke to NDTV and stated that he would confirm and get more details.

Abdullah has also voiced concerns about the broader situation in Jammu & Kashmir, stating that the attack in Pahalgam had undone years of progress in the region's economy and diplomacy. He argued that such incidents allow Pakistan to raise the Kashmir issue on international forums. He also highlighted the unique opportunity for peace and stability in the region following a ceasefire understanding between India and Pakistan.

In a shocking incident highlighting the continued challenges of patriarchy and violence against women, tennis player Radhika Yadav was allegedly shot dead by her father in Gurugram. Police investigations revealed that the father, Deepak Yadav, objected to Radhika training aspirants by booking tennis courts. There had been claims that Deepak was not happy with Radhika's social media presence and her desire to become an influencer.

Reports indicate that Radhika wanted to live an independent life and even travel abroad. WhatsApp messages to her coach revealed she felt there were "too many restrictions at home". The incident has sparked outrage and drawn attention to the issue of violence against women and the control exerted by some families over their daughters' lives. Social media is awash with condemnation, with many calling it an act of patriarchy.
