A late-night fire in Delhi's Old Govindpura area of Jagatpuri, Shahdara district, has resulted in the deaths of two people and injuries to two others. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, prompting a response from police and fire services.
Around 8:46 pm, authorities received a call reporting a fire in a house located in Band Gali, Old Govindpura. Upon arrival, a team from the Jagatpuri police station discovered that approximately ten people were trapped inside the burning residential building.
Firefighters and police personnel worked together to rescue six people from the blaze. Four individuals were transported to Dr. Hedgewar Hospital. Tragically, two of the injured, identified as 28-year-old Tanveer and Nusrat, were pronounced dead at the hospital. Faizal, from Khureji Khas, and Aasif, 18, are currently receiving treatment for their injuries.
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) dispatched a total of nine fire tenders to combat the fire. Fire officer Deepak Hooda stated that the fire department received the emergency call around 8:45 pm and immediately began rescue operations. According to DFS officials, the situation was brought under control within an hour. Ambulance services and local police teams were also present to assist with the evacuation.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown and under investigation. Authorities have not ruled out any possibilities as forensic and fire department teams assess the scene to determine the origin and circumstances surrounding the incident.
