All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has urged young people to shun excessive consumption of social media reels and instead, cultivate the habit of reading newspapers to become leaders, doctors, engineers, or scientists. Owaisi warned that spending too much time watching reels can negatively impact their minds. He also connected his message with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections.
Owaisi voiced his concerns during an address in Hyderabad, cautioning the youth against wasting time on reels. He stressed the importance of gaining knowledge and awareness through reading. He specifically said that one cannot become leaders, doctors, engineers, or scientists if they waste time watching reels. He appealed to the youth to not waste their time watching reels. He said watching reels only destroys the brain and wastes time.
Owaisi also criticized the ongoing revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, where many people are allegedly being labeled as Bangladeshi, Nepali, or Myanmarese. He questioned how the youth would respond to Booth Level Officers (BLOs) if they remained engrossed in reels. He also demanded the results of the last time this exercise was carried out in 2003, and how may foreign nationals were revealed at the time. He urged them to question the BLOs about the alleged presence of individuals from Nepal, Myanmar, and Bangladesh.
Owaisi emphasized the importance of political and professional empowerment for Muslim minorities in India. He believes that such empowerment is essential for participating in democracy, defending their rights, and shaping the nation's future. He distributed educational kits to students at the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen party headquarters.
Owaisi has previously spoken out against the dangers of social media addiction. He cautioned students against addiction to social media, reels in particular. He said that addiction to reels will only waste their time and distract them.
