India is making significant strides in the global quantum computing arena, and QpiAI, a Bengaluru-based startup, is emerging as a key player in this ambitious endeavor. The nation's commitment to becoming a leader in quantum technology is underscored by the National Quantum Mission (NQM), backed by a substantial budget of Rs 6,003.65 crore (approximately $735 million). This mission aims to foster innovation, develop a skilled workforce, and establish a robust quantum ecosystem in India.

QpiAI, founded in 2019, has quickly positioned itself at the forefront of India's quantum revolution. The company focuses on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing to address complex challenges across various industries. QpiAI's dedication to advancing indigenous quantum technology is evident through its full-stack approach, encompassing quantum hardware, scalable control systems, and optimized software. This comprehensive strategy is designed to make quantum computing more practical, accessible, and globally influential.

A major milestone for QpiAI and India's quantum ambitions was the launch of QpiAI-Indus, the country's first full-stack quantum computing system. Unveiled on World Quantum Day, April 14, 2025, QpiAI-Indus features 25 superconducting qubits, making it one of India's most powerful quantum computers. The system integrates cutting-edge quantum processors, next-generation Quantum-HPC software platforms, and AI-powered quantum solutions, enabling transformative hybrid computing. QpiAI-Indus is designed to support hybrid quantum-classical computing, opening doors to revolutionary applications in fields like life sciences, materials engineering, mobility, and logistics.

QpiAI has a clear roadmap for scaling its quantum computing capabilities. The company plans to extend its technology to 64 qubits (Kaveri), 128 qubits (Ganges), and eventually 1000 qubits (Everest). Furthermore, QpiAI is actively developing fault-tolerant quantum computers with error correction for commercial applications, based on logical qubits. This long-term vision demonstrates QpiAI's commitment to pushing the boundaries of quantum computing and creating a robust quantum talent ecosystem.

QpiAI's contributions extend beyond hardware development. The company has also created proprietary software tools like QpiAISaaS and QpiAI-Opt to support quantum-classical workflows in sectors such as drug discovery, materials science, logistics, and climate modeling. These tools facilitate access to quantum computing through a hybrid interface that utilizes machine learning techniques to guide quantum optimization algorithms. QpiAI has filed 11 patents and is already generating revenue through software licensing, highlighting its innovative approach and commercial potential.

The Indian government recognizes QpiAI's pivotal role in advancing the nation's quantum goals. QpiAI is one of eight startups selected under the NQM, coordinated by the Department of Science and Technology (DST). In a recent funding round, QpiAI raised $32 million, co-led by the Indian government, further solidifying its position as a key player in India's quantum landscape. As QpiAI continues to innovate and expand its capabilities, India is poised to make significant contributions to the global quantum revolution, driving advancements across various industries and scientific domains.
