Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil has once again captured the internet's attention, not for his acting prowess this time, but for his choice of mobile phone. The actor, known for his understated style, was recently spotted at a film puja ceremony in Kerala using what appeared to be a basic keypad phone. However, this seemingly simple device carries a whopping price tag that has left fans and tech enthusiasts stunned.
The phone in question is reportedly a Vertu Ascent Retro Classic, a luxury model handcrafted by Vertu, a UK-based manufacturer renowned for its elite mobile phones. While it looks like an ordinary keypad phone, the Vertu Ascent Retro Classic boasts a price of $11,920, which is approximately ₹10.2 lakh. Some reports suggest Fahadh might be using the Vertu Ascent Ti, a model from 2008 crafted from high-end materials like titanium, sapphire crystal glass, and hand-stitched leather which originally retailed for around ₹5.54 lakh. Though no longer in production, pre-owned versions can still be found online for ₹1 to ₹1.5 lakh.
The revelation of the phone's hefty price tag has sparked widespread discussion online. Many are surprised that the actor, in an age of advanced smartphones, prefers to use a basic-looking keypad phone. Fahadh's choice seems to reflect his minimalistic persona. Known for his intense performances, he maintains a low profile off-screen.
Vertu aims to elevate mobile phones to the level of jewelry, and Fahadh's phone reflects exactly that. More than just a phone, it could be seen as a statement. While other celebrities are busy launching apps or flaunting foldable phones, Fahadh's choice suggests a conscious detachment from the hyper-connected world. It could be a nod to a simpler time or an effort to stay grounded amidst the trappings of stardom.
Fahadh's preference for simpler phones isn't new. Actor Vinay Forrt previously mentioned in an interview that Fahadh avoids smartphones and social media. This aligns with Fahadh's desire to stay disconnected from the smartphone age.
On the professional front, Fahadh Faasil is set to appear in director Sudeesh Shankar's film, Maareesan, alongside Vadivelu. He was also recently seen in Pushpa 2. Furthermore, reports suggest that he may be making his Bollywood debut in Imtiaz Ali's The Idiot of Istanbul.
