The Philadelphia Flyers have officially released their 2025-26 regular season schedule, setting the stage for what promises to be a highly anticipated and competitive season. Here's a breakdown of what to watch for and which games to circle on your calendar.

Opening Act & Key Dates

The Flyers will kick off their 58th season on the road against the reigning, back-to-back Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers on Thursday, October 9. This marks the third consecutive year that Philadelphia starts the season on the road. The Flyers will then host the Panthers for their home opener on Monday, October 13, at the newly-named Xfinity Mobile Arena. Notably, the Flyers have a favorable 3-1-0 record against the Panthers in home openers.

Several other dates stand out:

  • October 28 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins: The first Battle of Pennsylvania of the season.
  • November 1 vs. Toronto Maple Leafs: Scott Laughton makes his return to Philadelphia.
  • November 22 vs. New Jersey Devils: A classic Metropolitan Division showdown.
  • November 28 vs. New York Islanders: The annual Black Friday game, but on the road this year.
  • January 6 vs. Anaheim Ducks: Cutter Gauthier's second visit to Philadelphia.
  • February 25 @ Washington Capitals: The first game after the Olympic break.
  • April 14 vs. Montreal Canadiens: The final regular season game.

Schedule Breakdown

The 2025-26 schedule consists of 82 games, evenly split with 41 home games and 41 road games. Philadelphia's home schedule features 15 weekend games, with 11 on Saturdays and four on Sundays. October, December, and January are the busiest months for home games, with seven each. The team will have a season-high six-game homestand from December 1-13. November, December, January, and March will see the most road games, with eight each. The Flyers will embark on three separate four-game road trips.

Divisional Matchups

The Flyers will play 26 games against their Metropolitan Division rivals. This includes four games each against the Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Washington Capitals. They will face the Columbus Blue Jackets and New Jersey Devils three times each. The team will also play three games against each team in the Atlantic Division for a total of 24 contests.

Western Conference Foes

Philadelphia will play each team in the Western Conference twice – once at home and once on the road – totaling 32 games. December will be the busiest month against Western Conference opponents, with eight of 15 games against teams from the West.

Back-to-Backs and Olympic Break

The Flyers will have 14 back-to-back games, a slight increase from the 13 they had in the 2024-25 season. They will also play three games in four nights 19 times and four games in six nights 24 times.

The NHL will pause from February 6-24 for the 2026 Winter Olympics. The Flyers will play their last game before the break on February 5 against Ottawa and resume play on February 25 against Washington.

Storylines to Follow

Several storylines will be worth monitoring throughout the season:

  • Rick Tocchet's Debut: How will the new head coach fare in his first season behind the bench?
  • Matvei Michkov's Development: Can the young Russian star continue his growth and become a dominant force?
  • Integration of Prospects: Will the Flyers' new coaching staff give younger players a chance to prove themselves at the NHL level?
  • Goaltending Stability: Can Samuel Ersson and Dan Vladar provide consistent goaltending and improve the team's save percentage?
  • Cutter Gauthier's Return: What kind of reception will the former Flyers prospect receive when he visits Philadelphia with the Anaheim Ducks?

The Flyers face a challenging start to the season, with games against likely playoff teams early on. However, long homestands and key matchups against division rivals provide opportunities to gain momentum. The Olympic break will create a condensed schedule in the second half of the season, testing the team's depth and stamina.
