An IndiGo flight, en route from Tirupati to Hyderabad, was compelled to return to its origin airport in Tirupati on Sunday, July 20, 2025, due to a technical snag. The flight, identified as 6E 6591, took off from Tirupati Airport at 7:55 PM.
Shortly after takeoff, the Airbus A321 aircraft encountered a technical issue mid-air. As a precautionary measure, the pilots circled the aircraft over the area for approximately 40 minutes before deciding to return to Tirupati's Renigunta Airport. The plane landed safely at 8:30 PM.
There were 221 passengers onboard the flight. All passengers were reported safe, and no injuries or emergencies occurred during the incident.
This was the last scheduled flight to Hyderabad for the day. Passengers were asked to deplane and leave the airport premises. IndiGo arranged an alternative flight for the affected passengers, scheduled for 8:20 AM on Monday.
IndiGo officials have stated that a technical team is currently assessing the aircraft to determine the cause of the technical glitch. As of now, the airline has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
Earlier that same day, another IndiGo flight, 6E 2696, on the same route, also experienced a similar technical issue. That aircraft had taken off around 6:19 AM and returned to Tirupati shortly after departure. It also circled for a while before landing safely.
The back-to-back disruptions on the same route have raised concerns among passengers. Passengers affected by the cancellations have been advised to contact IndiGo for further assistance and rescheduling options.
This incident occurs amidst heightened scrutiny of aircraft maintenance following a devastating crash on June 12 that killed over 260 people.
