A Ghaziabad resident, Harsh Vardhan Jain, was arrested for running a fake embassy of the micronation "West Arctica" from a rented bungalow in Kavi Nagar. The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) busted the operation, seizing vehicles with fake diplomatic number plates, forged passports, and other fraudulent items.
Jain allegedly posed as a diplomat for several non-existent countries, including West Arctica, Saborga, Poulvia, and Lodonia. Preliminary investigations suggest that he was involved in brokering fake job deals for companies and individuals seeking employment abroad. He is also suspected of running a hawala racket through shell companies. Authorities seized ₹44.7 lakh in cash, foreign currency, and documents related to multiple companies.
To deceive people, Jain allegedly used morphed photos showing him with prominent figures such as the Prime Minister and President. The fake embassy was operating out of a luxurious double-story building. The police recovered twelve forged diplomatic passports from the so-called micronations, fake documents stamped with the seal of the Ministry of External Affairs, two forged PAN cards, 34 rubber stamps of various countries and companies, and two fake press cards.
West Arctica is a micronation founded by a US Navy officer but is not recognized by any sovereign state. Jain allegedly lured people with promises of jobs abroad and was also allegedly part of a money laundering network.
Jain has a history of criminal activity. In 2011, he was booked in a case related to the recovery of an illegal satellite phone. Interrogation revealed that Jain had associations with controversial godman Chandraswami and international arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi in the past.
