Following his recent resignation as Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar is preparing to move into a Type VIII bungalow. This transition comes after Dhankhar resided in the newly constructed Vice President Enclave for approximately 15 months. The Enclave, located on Church Road near the Parliament House complex, was built as part of the Central Vista redevelopment project and includes the Vice President's residence, a separate secretariat building, guest house, staff quarters, sports facilities, and a swimming pool.
As a former Vice President, Dhankhar is entitled to a government-allotted bungalow. According to officials from the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, he will be offered a Type VIII bungalow located in Lutyens' Delhi or another suitable area. Type VIII bungalows are typically assigned to senior Union ministers or presidents of national parties.
These bungalows in Lutyens' Delhi are known for their spacious layouts and sprawling gardens, reflecting the architectural style of Sir Edwin Lutyens, who designed much of New Delhi during the British Raj. While specific details about the interior of the bungalow being allotted to Dhankhar are yet to be revealed, Type VIII bungalows generally feature multiple bedrooms, living areas, dining rooms, and studies to accommodate the needs of high-ranking government officials and their families. They also include quarters for domestic staff and ample parking space.
Besides the government bungalow, Dhankhar is also entitled to a number of other benefits, including a pension and various facilities. He will receive a pension of ₹125,000 per month. Furthermore, Dhankhar is entitled to travel anywhere in India by the highest class in air, rail, or steamer, with his spouse or companion. He will also receive free healthcare and the services of a private doctor. The government will also cover the electricity and water bills for the allotted bungalow. Moreover, he will be assigned two personal assistants, and his wife will receive the services of a private secretary. Dhankhar will also be entitled to Z+ security, a government car, and a driver.
Dhankhar's decision to resign from his position as Vice President, citing health reasons, has led to speculation. Following his resignation on Monday, he instructed his staff to begin packing his belongings.
