During a recent Parliament session, Home Minister Amit Shah declared that "Operation Sindoor" had exposed Pakistan's role as a state sponsor of terrorism on the global stage. Shah's statement came amidst a debate on India's counter-terrorism strategy and actions taken in response to recent terror attacks.
Operation Sindoor was launched following a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 people, primarily tourists, were killed. India responded swiftly, targeting and destroying nine terrorist bases, including two headquarters, within minutes of launching the operation. Shah emphasized that the strikes were solely against terrorist camps, avoiding any Pakistani military installations or civilian areas.
According to Shah, Pakistan's reaction to Operation Sindoor revealed its direct involvement in terrorism. He stated that when India targeted the terror camps, the Pakistani army responded, thus exposing Pakistan's sponsorship of terrorism. He further claimed that senior Pakistani army officers attended the funerals of terrorists killed in the operation, even carrying their coffins, which was witnessed by the world.
Shah lauded the Border Security Force (BSF) for its role in Operation Sindoor, praising their efforts in thwarting Pakistan's "nefarious intent and action". He also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, along with precise intelligence and the armed forces' capabilities, for the success of the operation. He stated that Operation Sindoor was a result of the Prime Minister's firm political will, precise intelligence from information-gathering agencies, and the Army's remarkable display of striking capability.
Shah further commented on the "new normal" in India's approach to terrorism, highlighting key points such as not treating terrorists as proxies and ensuring an appropriate response to cross-border terrorism, asserting that talks and terror cannot coexist. He also pointed out that the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack were linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba and were eliminated in Operation Mahadev.
Shah also spoke on the broader issue of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), reiterating India's stance that PoK is an integral part of India and will always remain so. He criticized past policies, particularly those of Jawaharlal Nehru, holding them responsible for the continued existence of PoK. Shah also mentioned that the scrapping of Article 370 has destroyed the terror ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.
