An IndiGo flight 6E-7285 from Surat to Jaipur experienced an unexpected delay at Surat Airport on Monday afternoon, July 7, 2025, when a swarm of bees descended upon the aircraft. The incident, which occurred around 4:20 PM, caused a delay of approximately one hour for the flight.
According to airport sources, the aircraft was fully boarded, and luggage was being loaded into the cargo hold when the swarm of bees suddenly appeared. The bees clustered around the luggage door, halting baggage loading and causing concern among airport staff. Passengers were already seated in the plane and preparing for takeoff when the incident occurred. The swarm, possibly disoriented by weather or attracted to the aircraft's reflective surfaces, refused to move despite initial efforts to disperse them.
Initial attempts to remove the bees using traditional methods like smoke and water spray proved ineffective. As the situation escalated, the airport fire brigade was called in to assist. Firefighters used high-pressure water jets to dislodge the bees from the aircraft. It took nearly an hour to successfully remove the swarm.
The incident caused distress and anxiety among the passengers. The IndiGo flight eventually took off at 5:26 PM, approximately one hour behind schedule. Passengers expressed relief once the plane was airborne without further complications.
Airport officials stated that this was the first time such an incident had occurred at Surat Airport. The unusual event disrupted airport operations and caused a brief commotion on the tarmac.
