During his 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of attempting to steal votes through the Election Commission (EC). Addressing a public gathering in Bhagalpur on the sixth day of the Yatra, Gandhi criticized Modi for his silence on the alleged "vote chori" (vote theft) during his visit to Gaya earlier in the day.
Gandhi specifically targeted the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, claiming it is a deliberate attempt by Modi, the BJP, and the EC to disenfranchise voters and manipulate the electoral process. He questioned why Modi remained silent on the issue, especially after visiting Gaya. Gandhi went on to allege that the BJP, in collusion with the Election Commission, has been stealing elections in state after state. He cited alleged irregularities in Maharashtra and Karnataka polls, as well as the Manipur issue, as examples.
The Congress leader claimed that about one crore voters were added in Maharashtra after the BJP-led alliance lost there in the Lok Sabha elections. He further stated that the Congress party had requested the EC to provide machine-readable voters lists and CCTV footage, but the poll body refused. Gandhi warned the public that the BJP's actions could lead to the removal of voter cards, ration cards, and eventually the transfer of land to wealthy individuals like Adani and Ambani.
Gandhi asserted that the entire country is now aware that Narendra Modi steals votes and that the INDIA bloc will not allow the BJP to steal the voting rights of the people of Bihar. He also accused the NDA government of implementing anti-poor policies and hindering employment opportunities for the youth. Furthermore, Gandhi alleged that Modi aims to dismantle the Constitution framed by Mahatma Gandhi and BR Ambedkar, thereby depriving people of their constitutional rights.
The 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' is scheduled to traverse through more than 20 districts of Bihar, including Gaya, Nalanda, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Darbhanga, and Champaran, before culminating in a rally in Patna on September 1. However, the Yatra faced a setback when a woman, who initially claimed that her family's names were missing from the voter list, later admitted that her name was indeed on the rolls. Despite this controversy, Gandhi's campaign continues, with the backing of INDIA bloc allies, to highlight alleged irregularities in Bihar's voter rolls.
