The central government has appointed Sanjay Singhal, a 1993-batch IPS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, as the new Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Singhal is currently serving as Special Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the decision.
Singhal will assume his new role on September 1, 2025, succeeding Amrit Mohan Prasad, who retires on August 31, 2025. He will continue to serve as the DG of SSB until his superannuation on December 31, 2028. However, the order also states that Singhal's tenure could end earlier, depending on further orders.
The SSB is one of the key armed forces under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is responsible for guarding India's borders with Nepal and Bhutan. Singhal's appointment marks a new chapter in India's border security management.
