Dallas Wings Gain Momentum Against Indiana Fever as Clark's Former Teammate's Contract Concludes

The Dallas Wings are set to face the Indiana Fever in an upcoming matchup, and the Wings have received promising news regarding their roster. After a significant absence, forward Maddy Siegrist is officially available to play.

Siegrist has been sidelined for 17 games, since mid-June, due to an anterolateral tibial plateau fracture. Despite being consistently listed as out on injury reports, she remained involved, participating in shootarounds, hinting at her imminent return.

However, Siegrist's return coincides with the waiving of guard Grace Berger. Berger had recently signed a seven-day hardship deal with the Wings and made her debut in a win over Seattle, playing for 10 minutes off the bench. Ironically, Berger's first WNBA appearance this season was with the Indiana Fever, the very team the Wings are now preparing to face. The decision to waive Berger appears to be more about roster logistics than performance.

Meanwhile, Caitlin Clark's second season with the Indiana Fever has been marked by unexpected challenges. Clark has had to navigate battles both on and off the court, while also dealing with injuries that have limited her playing time.

Adding to the Fever's dynamics, a recent game showcased the skills of guard Aari McDonald, who the Fever signed as a free agent earlier this season. McDonald scored 27 points, with 7-of-11 shooting from the field and 10-of-10 free throws, along with four assists and two steals. Also, Clark recently participated in a lighthearted flip cup tic-tac-toe game with teammate Lexie Hull. Hull, known for her defensive skills and three-point shooting, has been a valuable contributor to the Fever.

Sophie Cunningham, a guard for the Indiana Fever, has also voiced her support for teammate Caitlin Clark, criticizing those who deny Clark's significance to the WNBA. Cunningham expressed her frustration with the notion that Clark isn't the face of the league, emphasizing Clark's positive impact on the WNBA. Cunningham revealed that she's observed other teams giving Clark a tougher time due to her stardom. She also shared insights into how other teams strategize against Clark, determined to show her "what the W really is". Cunningham was traded to the Fever on January 31, 2025, in a four-team trade that also included the Dallas Wings and Connecticut Sun.
