"Son of Sardaar 2," starring Ajay Devgn, has officially been released in theaters on August 1, 2025. Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, the film is a sequel to the 2012 hit, "Son of Sardaar". The film features an ensemble cast including Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, Neeru Bajwa, Deepak Dobriyal, Kubbra Sait, Chunky Panday, Sharat Saxena, Vindu Dara Singh, Roshni Walia, Sanjay Mishra, Ashwini Kalsekar, and the late Mukul Dev.
Runtime and Certification
"Son of Sardaar 2" has been certified U/A by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), making it suitable for viewers aged 13 and above. The final runtime of the movie is approximately 2 hours, 27 minutes, and 32 seconds (147 minutes and 32 seconds).
Storyline
The film continues the story of Jassi Singh Randhawa, played by Ajay Devgn. Years after settling a family feud and surviving house arrest in Punjab, Jassi returns, this time seeking love rather than trouble. The plot takes him to Scotland, where he hopes to win back his estranged wife but becomes entangled in a hostage crisis, a mafia war, and a bizarre Sardaar wedding.
Advance Booking Trends
As of July 31, 2025, "Son of Sardaar 2" had made decent progress in advance bookings for its opening day. Filmy News Network reported gross advance bookings of ₹2.03 crore for day 1, with approximately 1.26 lakh tickets sold across 5,000 shows. To boost ticket sales, makers are offering a 50% discount on tickets for the opening day. According to a tweet shared by Always Bollywood, "Son of Sardaar 2" has managed to sale 24560 tickets till 6 PM.
Despite these efforts, the advance bookings have been described as "below the mark". The first day business is expected to be in the range of ₹6.50 crore to ₹7.00 crore. Surprisingly, advance bookings in non-national chains and single screens are also subpar. The film needs strong word-of-mouth to make up for the potentially slow start and attract families over the weekend.
Box Office Competition
"Son of Sardaar 2" faces stiff competition from other films, including "Saiyaara" and "Mahavatar Narsimha". The unexpected success of "Saiyaara," a romantic drama starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has taken the industry by surprise. "Mahavatar Narsimha," an animated mythological film, is also performing well. The success of "Saiyaara" led to "Son of Sardaar 2" being delayed by a week to secure more screens. "Dhadak 2" is another movie released on the same day, adding to the box office competition.
Screen Count and Distribution
PVR Pictures is distributing "Son of Sardaar 2" and aims to release the film on approximately 2500 to 3000 screens across India. However, securing optimal showcasing is proving challenging due to the competition. Shows will be split with "Saiyaara", "Dhadak 2", and "Mahavatar Narsimha", varying by region.
OTT Release
After its theatrical run, "Son of Sardaar 2" will be available on Netflix.
