An encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district has resulted in the death of a terrorist, according to the Indian Army. The operation, dubbed "Operation Akhal," is currently underway in the Akhal forest area of the south Kashmir district.
Security forces initiated a cordon and search operation in the Akhal forest on Friday, August 1, 2025, following specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists. The search operation escalated into an encounter when the hiding terrorists opened fire on the security forces. The operation is ongoing for a second consecutive day.
Chinar Corps confirmed that the slain militant belonged to The Resistance Front (TRF), which is an offshoot of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). These militants are believed to be linked to a recent attack in Pahalgam.
The Kulgam encounter occurred just days after security forces neutralized three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terror attack in Dachigam area of Srinagar.
