In Jammu & Kashmir, two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Akhal Devsar area of Kulgam district. The joint operation was launched by the Army, J&K Police, and CRPF, acting on specific intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the area.
Police sources indicate that contact with the terrorists was initially established on the evening of August 1, 2025, and one terrorist was neutralized late that night. Due to darkness, the operation was temporarily suspended but resumed on the morning of August 2, 2025, during which another terrorist was killed. The search operation is still underway in the area.
According to the Army, the troops maintained contact throughout the night, responding with calibrated fire. One terrorist was neutralized by security forces, and it was later confirmed that a second terrorist had been killed. Authorities suspect that one or two more terrorists may still be hiding in the area, and the operation is ongoing.
One of the slain terrorists has been identified as Haris Nazir Dar, a resident of Rajpora in Pulwama, who was affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). An AK-47 rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.
This Kulgam encounter is the third major operation in the last week. On July 28, 2025, three Pakistani terrorists were killed in the forested Lidwas area near Harwan, on the outskirts of Srinagar, during "Operation Mahadev". These terrorists were responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. On July 30, two terrorists were also eliminated during "Operation Shivshakti" in a gunfight with security forces near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district, following an infiltration attempt.
The recent operations signify an intensification of anti-terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
