VinFast, the Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer, is aggressively expanding its footprint in India, with plans to establish a robust network of showrooms across the country. As part of this expansion, VinFast has inaugurated its largest showroom in India in Chennai. This new facility is located in Teynampet, Chennai.
The Chennai showroom, spanning 4,700 sq. ft., is operated in partnership with Maansarovar Motors. This is VinFast's first dealership in Tamil Nadu and the largest among the 35 outlets the company intends to open across 27 cities by the end of the year. The company aims to provide immersive brand engagement, clean aesthetics, futuristic layout, and easy navigation.
VinFast's Chennai showroom will showcase its upcoming electric SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7. Pre-bookings for these models commenced on July 15, 2025, with a refundable deposit of ₹21,000. India is the first market to receive the right-hand drive versions of the VF 6 and VF 7. The VF 6 is expected to be priced between ₹18 lakh and ₹24 lakh, while the VF 7 is expected to cost between ₹30 lakh and ₹35 lakh.
The Chennai showroom is strategically located in Teynampet, a premium and high-visibility neighborhood, making it accessible to Chennai's tech-forward urban population. According to Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, Chennai's skilled talent and innovation-focused ecosystem make it a natural choice for VinFast's Tamil Nadu foray.
VinFast is also setting up a vehicle assembly plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The vehicles will be locally assembled at this plant. The manufacturing plant is expected to commence operations on July 30. The company aims for an annual production capacity of 150,000 electric vehicles from its Indian facility in the next few years, with plans to export vehicles to West Asia and Africa.
In addition to expanding its retail presence, VinFast is also focused on establishing a comprehensive EV ecosystem in India. The company has formed strategic partnerships with RoadGrid, myTVS, and BatX Energies to create a nationwide network for charging and after-sales services.
While VinFast has ambitious plans for the Indian market, it has also faced some challenges. The company has reduced its initial annual sales target by a third, now aiming to sell 3,000 units in its first year. This adjustment is due to uncertainties around the sales and distribution network. The rollout of the VF 7 and VF 6 models in India is also expected to face a one-month delay. Despite these challenges, VinFast remains committed to the Indian market and its long-term vision for electric mobility in the country.
