The Thane Traffic Police have announced a temporary ban on heavy vehicles on Ghodbunder Road from August 8 to August 10, 2025, to facilitate urgent repair works. The ban will be specifically in place at the Gaimukh Ghat section of the Thane-Ghodbunder Highway (State Highway No. 84). The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation will carry out road strengthening and resurfacing during this period.
The restrictions aim to prevent traffic congestion in the Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar areas and ensure smooth traffic flow. To accommodate the ban, heavy vehicles will be diverted to alternative routes. However, the restrictions do not apply to police vehicles, fire brigades, ambulances, green corridor vehicles, oxygen tankers, and other essential service vehicles. Light vehicles will still be allowed to use the road.
Here's a breakdown of the alternative routes for heavy vehicles:
Ghodbunder-Thane Route: Heavy vehicles coming from Palghar-Virar via National Highway 48 (NH-48) towards Versova will be blocked at Shirsat Phata. The alternative route is via Shirsat Phata - Parol - Akoli (Ganeshpuri) - Ambadi. Vehicles from Palghar–Vasai via NH-48 heading to Versova will be blocked at Chinchoti Naka. The alternative route is Chinchoti - Kaman - Kharbav - Anjurphata - Bhiwandi. Vehicles from Mumbai and Kashimira via the Western Express Highway going towards Thane/Ghodbunder will also be blocked.
Thane–Ghodbunder Route: All heavy vehicles from Mumbai/Thane towards Ghodbunder Road will be blocked at the V junction and Kapurbavdi junction. The alternative route is via V junction - Nashik Road - Kharegaon Toll - Mankoli - Anjurphata. Another option is to take a right turn near Kapurbawdi Junction and go to the desired destination via Kasheli, Ajurphata. Also, entry is being closed to all heavy vehicles going from Mumbra, Kalwa towards Ghodbunder Road at Kharegaon Toll Plaza. The alternative route is via Kharegaon Khadi Bridge, Kharegaon Toll Plaza, Mankoli, Ajurphata.
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) Route: Heavy vehicles from Ahmedabad heading to Thane/Navi Mumbai via Ghodbunder Road (Kajupada, Gaymukh) will be blocked. The alternative route is Manor (Ten Naka) - left turn - Posheri - Pali - Wada Naka - Shirish Pada - Ambadi - Bhiwandi.
These traffic changes are scheduled to be in effect from August 8 to August 10, 2025.
