The Madhya Pradesh government has announced that the National Lata Mangeshkar Award will be conferred upon the celebrated music composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy for 2024 and acclaimed singer Sonu Nigam for 2025. The State Culture Department has also revealed that lyricist Prasoon Joshi and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali will be honored with the National Kishore Kumar Award for 2024 and 2025, respectively.
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the dynamic music director trio consisting of Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani, and Loy Mendonsa, will receive the National Lata Mangeshkar Award 2024 for their contribution to music direction. Sonu Nigam will be awarded the National Lata Mangeshkar Award for 2025 for his outstanding playback singing.
The Lata Mangeshkar Award ceremony will take place in Indore on September 28, the birthplace of the late singer. The Kishore Kumar Award ceremony will be held in Khandwa on October 13, which is the birthplace of the legendary actor-singer. The Madhya Pradesh Culture Department presents the award annually on Lata Mangeshkar's birth anniversary, a tradition that began in 1984. The Kishore Kumar Award was started in memory of Kishore Kumar.
The National Lata Mangeshkar Award recognizes individuals for their exceptional talent and contribution to the field of music. The award not only celebrates the accomplishments of these artists but also commemorates the legacies of two of India's most beloved musical icons.
In addition to these honors, the National Kishore Kumar Award will be presented to Prasoon Joshi for his lyric writing in 2024 and to Sanjay Leela Bhansali for direction in 2025.
