In Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district, tensions are high after a place of worship was vandalized in Parohiya village, Ramgaon police station area, under Mahsi tehsil. The incident, which occurred between the night of August 10 and the morning of August 11, 2025, involved damage to the 'Gavat Mata' site, the cutting down of trees near the site, and the inverting of a Lord Hanuman flag.
News of the vandalism quickly spread, leading to a gathering of hundreds of angry villagers on Monday morning. Police responded swiftly, arriving at the scene to bring the situation under control. Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the law and have taken six individuals into custody for questioning.
According to police, some anti-social elements vandalized the Gavat Mata place, cut down some trees near the worship place and inverted the flag of Lord Hanuman.
স্থানীয় भारतीय जनता पार्टी (भाजपा) विधायक (MLA) सुरेश्वर सिंह ने इस घटना पर अपनी नाराजगी व्यक्त की और शरारती तत्वों के खिलाफ तत्काल कठोर कार्रवाई की मांग की. उन्होंने मीडिया से कहा कि पहोड़िया गांव में गावट देवी माता का स्थान है, जिसे बीती रात कुछ लोगों ने क्षतिग्रस्त कर दिया, पूजास्थल के निकट नीम के चार बड़े पेड़ काट दिये और भगवान हनुमान के झंडे को उलटा कर दिया. उन्होंने कहा कि स्पष्ट होता है कि सनातन को ठेस पहुंचाने व धार्मिक भावनाएं आहत करने के उद्देश्य से ये सब किया गया. विधायक ने कहा कि दोषी पाये जाने वाले लोगों के खिलाफ सख्त कार्रवाई की जानी चाहिये.
Circle Officer Ravi Khokhar stated that a case has been registered against unknown individuals regarding the incident of cutting trees in farmer Ankur Vajpayee's field, damaging the মাতা's platform, and hanging the flag upside down. He confirmed that six people have been detained and are being interrogated in connection with the case.
The incident has prompted a response from local political figures, with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Sureshwar Singh expressing strong disapproval and demanding immediate action against those responsible. Singh emphasized the intent to hurt 'Sanatan' (Hinduism) and outrage religious sentiments and called for strict action against the culprits.
