In Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district, tensions are high after a place of worship was vandalized in Parohiya village, Ramgaon police station area, under Mahsi tehsil. The incident, which occurred between the night of August 10 and the morning of August 11, 2025, involved damage to the 'Gavat Mata' site, the cutting down of trees near the site, and the inverting of a Lord Hanuman flag.

News of the vandalism quickly spread, leading to a gathering of hundreds of angry villagers on Monday morning. Police responded swiftly, arriving at the scene to bring the situation under control. Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the law and have taken six individuals into custody for questioning.

According to police, some anti-social elements vandalized the Gavat Mata place, cut down some trees near the worship place and inverted the flag of Lord Hanuman.

Circle Officer Ravi Khokhar stated that a case has been registered against unknown individuals regarding the incident of cutting trees in farmer Ankur Vajpayee's field, damaging the মাতা's platform, and hanging the flag upside down. He confirmed that six people have been detained and are being interrogated in connection with the case.

The incident has prompted a response from local political figures, with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Sureshwar Singh expressing strong disapproval and demanding immediate action against those responsible. Singh emphasized the intent to hurt 'Sanatan' (Hinduism) and outrage religious sentiments and called for strict action against the culprits.

In response to the sensitive nature of the situation, a significant number of police and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) forces have been deployed to maintain peace and order in the area. The police are actively investigating the matter, and further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
