A heart-wrenching incident occurred on August 10, 2025, on the Nagpur-Madhya Pradesh highway near Deolapar, where a man was forced to carry his wife's body on his motorcycle for approximately 80 kilometers after a fatal hit-and-run accident. The man, identified as 36-year-old Amit Bumra Yadav from Lonara, near Nagpur, was traveling with his 35-year-old wife, Gyarshi Yadav, towards Karanpur, Lakhnadon in Madhya Pradesh.
Tragedy struck when an unidentified vehicle hit their motorcycle between 2:30 pm and 3:00 pm, resulting in Gyarshi's immediate death and injuries to Amit. According to police reports, Gyarshi fell onto the road and was run over by the truck, which fled the scene without stopping.
In the aftermath of the accident, Amit Yadav reportedly pleaded with passing vehicles for assistance in transporting his wife's body, but no one stopped to help. With no immediate help available and heavy rain pouring down, Amit made the agonizing decision to tie his wife's body to the motorcycle and drive back to their home in Lonara.
A disturbing video showing Amit riding with his wife's body secured to the rear of the bike went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and sparking outrage. The video, reportedly shot by police, shows the woman lying sideways and motionless on the pillion seat. Occupants of a car following the bike can be heard urging Amit to stop; however, he appeared to speed up out of fear.
Police were alerted about the accident on a forested stretch of the highway but initially found no vehicle or person at the scene. Law enforcement authorities from Nagpur city, rural areas, and the highway police coordinated their efforts to track down Amit, eventually locating him at his home. Police tried to stop Amit near Khumari Toll Naka, but he continued riding.
The deceased's body has been sent for post-mortem, and police are awaiting the report to register a formal case. SP Rural Harssh A Poddar stated that a case would be registered after receiving the post-mortem report, and Additional SP Anil Mhaske is supervising the investigation. Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and initiated an investigation. Authorities are currently searching for the hit-and-run vehicle involved in the tragic crash.
The incident has prompted widespread shock and sadness, with many expressing dismay over the lack of humanity shown by those who passed by without offering assistance. Some people tried to stop him after seeing the body on the bike. However, he did not stop out of fear.
Amit and Gyarshi, originally from Seoni district in Madhya Pradesh, had been living in Nagpur for the past 10 years. They were traveling for Raksha Bandhan celebrations when the accident occurred.
