The filming of "Thama," starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, is reportedly nearing completion, with sources indicating that the final schedule wrapped around May 25, 2025. However, only two song sequences are left to be shot before the movie releases this Diwali.
"Thama" is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. The film also stars Paresh Rawal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Written by Niren Bhatt, Suresh Mathew, and Arun Fulara, "Thama" is set to be a part of Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films horror-comedy universe, following in the footsteps of successful films like "Stree," "Roohi," "Bhediya," "Munjya" and "Stree 2". However, Aditya Sarpotdar clarified that "Thama" is a romantic film with supernatural elements rather than a horror-comedy.
The film will reportedly have two timelines: the present day, where Ayushmann Khurrana plays a historian researching the origins of vampires in Indian folklore, and the past, set in the ancient city of Vijayanagar. The unrequited love story rooted in the past will connect the two timelines. Khurrana's character is a historian in present-day Delhi, while the flashbacks will transport viewers to the ancient city of Vijayanagar, where the love story begins. Reportedly, the title "Thama" is inspired by Ashwatthama, who was believed to be immortal.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui is expected to play a significant role, possibly as a "sarvashaktishaali" (all-powerful) antagonist. The first glimpse of the "sarvashaktishaali" villain is scheduled to be revealed on August 19, 2025.
The film is slated for a Diwali release in 2025 and is expected to clash with Kartik Aaryan's upcoming project.
Maddock Films is expanding its horror-comedy universe with "Thama," promising a blend of unconventional storytelling, unforgettable characters, and high-concept entertainment.
