In a recent interview, Mandhira Kapur, sister of the late business tycoon Sunjay Kapur, praised Karisma Kapoor, her brother's ex-wife, for being a devoted mother to their children, Samaira and Kiaan. Sunjay Kapur, who headed the Rs 30,000 crore mobility tech company Sona Comstar, passed away in June of this year due to cardiac arrest, leaving behind a family feud and an international investigation regarding the company's control. Amidst this tense situation, Mandhira lauded Karisma for prioritizing her children's best interests.
Mandhira emphasized Karisma's role in keeping the family united, stating that Karisma has done a very good job of letting the family be one. She commended Karisma for ensuring that the children have maintained close relationships and expressed hope that this unity would continue. Mandhira highlighted that Karisma, like any mother, is looking out for her children.
When asked if she is in touch with Karisma after Sunjay's death, Mandhira confirmed that they are in contact. She also believes that Karisma is in touch with Priya Sachdev Kapur, Sunjay's widow. Mandhira stressed that they have all maintained a good relationship and that the children have been visiting their grandmother. She further clarified that the situation is not meant to be a family feud.
Priya Sachdev, in an earlier interview, also spoke about her bond with Sunjay and Karisma's children. She described their family as a blended one, comprising Samaira, Safira (Priya's daughter from a previous marriage), Kiaan, and Azarias (her son with Sunjay). Priya mentioned that when Azarias was born, he became the glue that brought the family together, as he is half them and half Safira. She noted that Samaira and Safira are very close, and they have all grown to appreciate, respect, and love each other in their own ways. Priya acknowledged that she can never be Samaira and Kian's mother, but she believes she has a space in their lives and hearts, where they can discuss various topics and share a bond.
Mandhira also addressed the importance of respect and peace within the family. She believes that they should find a way to ensure that the head of the family maintains her space. She added that, regardless of age, they are all children and that the respect factor needs to remain. Mandhira expressed her belief that this aligns with the intentions of her mother and sister.
Sunjay Kapur's personal life, including his marriages and divorces, had often been in the public eye. He first married fashion designer Nandita Mahtani, then Karisma Kapoor in 2003, with whom he had Samaira and Kiaan. After their divorce in 2016, Sunjay married Priya Sachdev in 2017, and they had a son, Azarias.
Following Sunjay's death, a dispute arose regarding the family's inheritance, with allegations of the family being sidelined and disrespected. Mandhira claimed that her 80-year-old mother, Rani Kapur, was pressured into signing documents related to the company and that the family has been treated like strangers. She also mentioned that Rani Kapur is not emotionally ready to return to the house where Priya Sachdev Kapur resides.
