In a disturbing incident in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, a man walked into the District Magistrate's (DM) office with the body of his dead newborn child in a bag, alleging negligence and extortion by a private hospital. Vipin Gupta, a resident of Nausar Jogi, accused Goldar Hospital in Mahadevganj of delaying treatment and continuously raising prices, which he claims led to the death of his newborn and his wife's critical condition.
According to Vipin, his wife Ruby experienced labor pains, and upon the advice of a local ASHA worker, they went to Goldar Hospital around 2:30 pm. He stated that Dr. Hukuma Gupta and Dr. Manisha Gupta examined Ruby and demanded Rs 10,000 for a normal delivery and Rs 12,000 for a cesarean section. As Ruby's condition worsened, the doctors allegedly asked for an advance payment of Rs 25,000 for the C-section. Vipin says he paid Rs 5,000 and promised to pay the rest the next morning, but the doctors kept delaying the procedure.
Vipin further alleged that after attending to Ruby, her condition deteriorated, and the doctors gave up and forced her out of the hospital. Ruby was then taken to Srijan Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared the newborn dead, stating that the wrong medication had been administered at Goldar Hospital.
Driven to desperation and grief, Vipin went to the DM's office with his newborn's body, seeking justice for what he believes was a result of greed and carelessness. He submitted a petition to officials at the DM office and the Superintendent of Police's office, demanding action against the hospital and the doctors involved. He accused Dr. Manish Gupta and Dr. Hukuma Gupta of prioritizing money over his wife's treatment, leading to the tragic loss of his child.
The District Magistrate took swift action, ordering a probe into the allegations. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Santosh Gupta visited the hospital to investigate the matter and gather information. The DM also ordered the immediate sealing of Goldar Hospital, and patients were shifted to the District Women's Hospital. The district administration has assured the affected family of their support during this difficult time. The DM has also stated that she will be taking care of the entire medical expenses of Ruby, who is now stable.
