Across India, relentless rains, floods, and landslides have claimed at least 11 lives in the past 24 hours. Jharkhand has been particularly hard-hit, reporting the highest number of casualties. Fatalities have also been reported in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Uttarakhand.
In Jharkhand, five people have died and several others have been injured due to rain-triggered incidents. In Seraikela-Kharsawan district, a mother and her seven-year-old son were killed when their house collapsed on Friday night. The incident occurred in Dandu village under Rajnagar block. Eight other people were injured in the same incident when relatives were visiting the home. The woman and her son died during treatment at the MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur. Another fatality was reported from Pathalgada block.
In Jammu and Kashmir, two people died and two others were injured in separate incidents. A landslide near Malai Nallah in the Reasi district killed one person and left two others injured after their truck was buried under debris.
In Rajasthan, two people have also lost their lives due to the heavy rains. In Tamil Nadu, one man was electrocuted. In Uttarakhand, a woman was killed in Chamoli district after a rain drain overflowed in Tharali town. The flooding sent debris into residential areas, markets, and government buildings, causing significant damage. One person remains missing as search efforts continue. Several vehicles were buried, and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate's residence was also damaged. The Karnaprayag–Gwaldam National Highway connecting Tharali has been closed, while the Tharali–Sagwara Motorway and Dungri Motorway are also blocked.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rains in Palamu, Garhwa, and Chatra districts. The IMD has also predicted heavy rain and thunderstorms in Delhi. Many districts of Tamil Nadu have also received heavy rains and rescue operations are underway. People are being evacuated from the affected areas to safer places, with SDRF, police, army, and NDRF teams assisting. The IMD has warned of moderate to heavy rains with thunderstorms in Uttarakhand. Due to heavy rains, debris obstructed the flow of the Yamuna river in Sayanachatti in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.
