A government college assistant professor in Rajasthan is under scrutiny after being accused of securing his position using a fake disability certificate. Sawai Singh Gurjar, an English Assistant Professor at a government college in Bayana, Bharatpur, allegedly presented a certificate declaring him "deaf and mute" to meet the job requirements. However, subsequent medical evaluations revealed that he only has a hearing impairment.
The case surfaced during an investigation by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Rajasthan Police, which is currently reviewing government employees who obtained their jobs using disability certificates. On August 6, 2025, the SOG released a list of 24 allegedly ineligible candidates who were recruited through fraudulent means; Mr. Gurjar's name was on this list, and he was declared "unfit". The SOG investigation alleges that Mr. Gurjar presented a multiple disability certificate (deaf and mute), but new medical tests confirmed his ability to speak and that he only suffers from a hearing impairment.
Government reservation categories have different eligibility rules and quotas for "deaf" and "deaf-mute" candidates.
Speaking to NDTV, Mr. Gurjar denied any intentional wrongdoing, attributing the discrepancy to a technical error. He stated that the Karauli Medical Board had initially issued him an offline certificate for hearing disability alone, but when the certificate was uploaded, it mistakenly showed "deaf and mute". He added that he secured the job under the hearing impairment quota and not under any false category, and he only realized the error during a verification process.
