Following India's military strikes in Pakistan, conducted under what has been dubbed "Operation Sindoor," United States President Donald Trump has weighed in on the situation, expressing his hope for a swift resolution. The operation, launched in response to a recent terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the death of 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali citizen, has heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

"It's a shame," Trump told reporters at the White House on Tuesday. "We just heard about it, just as we were walking in the doors of the Oval. I guess people knew something was going to happen based on a little bit of the past. They've been fighting for a long time. You know, they've been fighting for many, many decades and centuries, actually, if you really think about it". He then added, "I just hope it ends very quickly".

Operation Sindoor involved Indian armed forces launching strikes on what they identified as terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Indian Army stated that the operation was "focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature," emphasizing that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted. According to reports, nine sites connected to the planning and coordination of cross-border attacks were targeted.

Pakistan has confirmed that Indian missiles struck multiple locations within its territory, including Kotli, Bahawalpur, Muridke, Bagh, and Muzaffarabad. The Pakistani military responded by deploying air force jets, with officials warning that a clash with India was now "inevitable".

The US State Department has indicated that it is closely monitoring the developments between India and Pakistan. "We are aware of the reports, however we have no assessment to offer at this time. This remains an evolving situation," the department said.

The strikes follow a high-level security review meeting held on April 29, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi granted the armed forces complete operational freedom to plan the response. The government has reiterated its stance that those responsible for the April attack in Pahalgam would be held accountable. Following the Pahalgam attack, diplomatic measures were also reportedly initiated against Pakistan, including a potential freeze on the Indus Water Treaty, shutting off the Attari border, and canceling visas for Pakistani nationals in India.
