Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, high-level meetings were convened in New Delhi on May 9, 2025, to review the security situation and India's preparedness. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were at the forefront of these discussions.

PM Modi reviewed the security measures in Gujarat, a border state, with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. He inquired about the preparedness and safety of citizens in sensitive districts such as Kutch, Banaskantha, Patan, and Jamnagar. The Prime Minister had also been closely monitoring the drone and missile attacks by Pakistan throughout the night, receiving constant updates and issuing necessary directives. On Thursday, Modi chaired a high-level meeting with secretaries of various ministries, emphasizing continued alertness, clear communication and reaffirming the government's commitment to national security and operational preparedness.

Home Minister Amit Shah held a review meeting to assess border and airport security. The Director Generals of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), along with the Chief of the Intelligence Bureau and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, attended the meeting.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a high-level meeting at South Block, New Delhi, to review the security situation along the western border and the operational readiness of the Indian Armed Forces. The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, and Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh were present. Singh's meeting with the CDS and the three service chiefs lasted for two hours. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi provided updates on the situation with Pakistan, while Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal A P Singh reported on the actions taken by the Air Force.

These meetings occurred a day after India effectively repelled multiple attacks from Pakistan, which included the use of drones and other munitions, along the western border on the night of May 8 and May 9. The Indian Army and Air Force have deployed the indigenously developed Akash surface-to-air missile system, which has been crucial in thwarting Pakistani drone attacks.

In response to the escalating tensions, Union Health Minister J P Nadda reviewed the preparedness of health infrastructure across hospitals in the country. Senior health ministry officials briefed him on the readiness of health facilities and the continuous monitoring being conducted from the control center.

Other developments include:

  • Seven terrorists backed by Pakistan Rangers were reportedly shot dead while attempting to infiltrate Jammu.
  • The Indian Premiere League (IPL) 2025 has been suspended indefinitely.
  • IndiGo has suspended flights to several cities, including Chandigarh, until May 10.
  • A complete blackout has been enforced in Srinagar and Jammu. In Punjab, the blackout was imposed until 5 am.
  • An undetonated Chinese missile, likely from a Pakistani fighter jet, was recovered from Punjab's Hoshiarpur.
  • Mumbai Air Traffic Control (ATC) reported a surge in traffic as flights avoided Pakistani airspace.
  • Air raid alerts were sounded in Panchkula, a satellite city of Chandigarh.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have risen following India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam massacre, with Indian armed forces targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
