India's Rowers Dominate Asian Indoor Rowing Championship Opening Day in Thailand with Strong Performances and Medal Haul.

India has made a spectacular start at the Asian Indoor Rowing Championship 2025, which commenced in Pattaya, Thailand, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Indian rowers dominated the opening day, securing a remarkable 15 medals across various categories.

According to the Rowing Federation of India, India's impressive haul includes nine gold medals, five silver medals, and one bronze medal. This outstanding performance has placed India at the top of the medal table after the first day of the competition.

A total of 11 nations are participating in this week-long sporting event, including South Korea, Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Thailand (the host nation), and India.

The gold medalists for India on the first day were:

  • Master Saksham in the Boys' Under-17 category
  • Gursewak Singh in the Under-19 Men's category
  • Gouri Nanda in the Under-19 Women's category
  • Konganapalle Narayana in the Para PR3 Men's category
  • Anita in the Para PR3 Women's category
  • Anyatam Rajkumar in the Para PR3 ID Men's category
  • Siddharth Sunil in the Masters 30-39 age group
  • Paspula Krishna Rao in the Masters 50-59 lightweight men
  • James Joseph in the Masters 60+ men

In addition to the gold medals, Alan Joshy secured a silver medal in the Under-19 men's category. Aditya Ravindra Kedari won silver in the Masters 30-39 age group, while Amit Kumar clinched silver in the Masters 30-39 lightweight men's category. Santu Garai also added a silver in the Masters 40-49 men's category. Harpreet Kaur won a bronze medal in the Masters 30-39 lightweight women's category.

The Indian squad is under the guidance of Olympian P.T. Paulose, who is serving as the coach, and Sudip Naha, who is the manager.

The strong performance on the first day reflects India's growing prominence in indoor rowing and highlights the talent and dedication of its athletes. The nation will be hoping to continue this momentum throughout the week-long championship.
