A 25-year-old chartered accountant, Dheeraj Kansal, was found dead in a Delhi hotel on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in an apparent suicide. The incident occurred in a hotel room in the Bengali Market area of New Delhi. Police investigations revealed that Kansal used helium gas to end his life.

According to reports, hotel staff became concerned when Kansal did not emerge from his room for an extended period. Upon entering the room, authorities discovered a helium cylinder connected to plastic pipes. The use of helium gas in the suicide has raised concerns about the increasing mental health challenges among young professionals and the adoption of unconventional methods for ending one's life. Authorities have confirmed that inhaling helium leads to a fatal lack of oxygen.

A suicide note, found in Kansal's pocket, revealed his struggles with loneliness and isolation following the death of his father in 2003 and his mother's subsequent remarriage. Kansal, who resided in a paying guest accommodation in Mehrauli and had no siblings, had also posted about his intentions on social media. The note expressed his detachment from others and a sense of disconnection. "The saddest part of my life was my birth; death is the most beautiful part of my life. If you're reading this, I'm already gone. I wasn't deeply connected to anyone, nor was anyone to me. There's no reason, no regret, and no complaint," the note read. He also stated that no one should be held responsible for his death.

Police have stated that there was no foul play. Kansal's family, including his uncles and cousins, have been informed and took care of the arrangements. Preliminary investigations suggest that the absence of a traditional family support system may have contributed to his mental state.

This tragic incident highlights the importance of mental health awareness and support, especially among young professionals.
