Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has voiced strong criticism against the Election Commission of India (ECI), stating that a recent press conference by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) raised more questions than it answered. Stalin, who is also the president of the DMK, has been a vocal opponent of alleged irregularities in electoral roll preparation and voter deletions.

Stalin's criticism comes amidst growing concerns about the transparency and fairness of the electoral process in India. He has specifically raised seven questions regarding the voter rolls and the ECI's conduct, suggesting a lack of transparency and potential bias. These questions underscore the DMK's apprehension about the integrity of the electoral process and the ECI's role in safeguarding it.

The Chief Minister's concerns echo those raised by other opposition leaders, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls being conducted by the Election Commission in Bihar. Stalin has alleged that the SIR is being misused to disenfranchise voters from disadvantaged and dissenting communities, with the aim of tilting the electoral balance in favor of the BJP. He warned against any attempts to undermine democracy and vowed to resist such efforts.

Stalin has also accused the BJP of turning the ECI into a "poll rigging machinery". He demanded the immediate release of complete, machine-readable voter rolls for every state, an end to politically motivated deletions, and an independent probe into the alleged subversion of democracy. He has also said that evidence presented by Rahul Gandhi exposed the scale of voter fraud.

The DMK has been actively involved in addressing voter list irregularities. Minerals and Natural Resources Minister S. Regupathy stated that the DMK is vigilant and committed to eliminating fake voters from the state's electoral rolls and would take the matter to the Supreme Court if necessary. He emphasized the DMK's awareness of each voter in every ward, making it difficult to add fraudulent entries.

Stalin's strong criticism of the ECI and the demand for greater transparency reflect a broader concern among opposition parties about the fairness and impartiality of the electoral process. These concerns have intensified with upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu and other states, leading to increased scrutiny of the ECI's actions and a growing demand for accountability. The controversy surrounding voter roll revisions and allegations of voter suppression are likely to remain a contentious issue in Indian politics, particularly as the country approaches future elections.
