Neha Dhupia has recently spoken out about the backlash she received for becoming pregnant before marriage, stating that she is now on the "same list" as Neena Gupta and Alia Bhatt, who also faced similar scrutiny. Dhupia married actor Angad Bedi in May 2018, and six months later, they welcomed their daughter, Mehr.

The actress revealed that the biggest conversation surrounding her wedding was how she had a baby just six months after getting married. She recalls people asking, "How did the baby come in six months? Ye ho kaise gaya?". Dhupia noted that even now, female actors who become pregnant before marriage are often subjected to judgment and gossip. She finds it ridiculous that society dictates when a woman should marry or have a child.

Dhupia emphasized that pregnancy is a beautiful experience and that is all that should matter. She handled the criticism with humor and resilience. In an interview, Dhupia stated that she and Angad Bedi decided to marry after a pregnancy test confirmed she was expecting. She told Times Now that her parents were supportive but gave them 72 hours to get married.

The criticism Dhupia faced motivated her to launch "Freedom to Feed," a platform that encourages open discussions about motherhood. The platform aims to normalize conversations about women's health, break myths, and remind women that they are not alone in their journeys. Dhupia feels it is important to address these topics without stigma and create a safe space for women to discuss pregnancy, breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, and other challenges. She aims to spread awareness and ensure these subjects are not swept under the rug.

Dhupia noted that she is not the first actress to face such scrutiny. Neena Gupta, for instance, had her daughter Masaba out of wedlock, and Alia Bhatt announced her pregnancy shortly after marrying Ranbir Kapoor. Dhupia finds it ridiculous that people feel entitled to question or dictate when someone should marry or have a baby.

Despite facing judgment, Dhupia chose to confront the criticism with resilience and humor. For her, motherhood became not only a personal milestone but also the foundation for advocating greater freedom and acceptance for women's choices. In 2021, Neha and Angad welcomed their son, Guriq. Dhupia remains committed to using her platform to promote open and honest conversations about motherhood and women's health.
