During Rahul Gandhi's ongoing "Voter Adhikar Yatra" in Bihar, abusive slogans targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi have surfaced, igniting a political firestorm and drawing strong condemnation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP has labeled the incident "shameful," highlighting the escalating tensions surrounding the yatra and the broader political landscape.

The incident occurred during the yatra in Darbhanga, where supporters were caught on camera using offensive language against the Prime Minister and his late mother. While Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav were not present on the dais when the slogans were chanted, the video rapidly spread on social media, triggering widespread criticism, particularly from the BJP. Local Congress leader Naushad led the Congress and RJD workers who were waving party flags and shouting insults directed at the Prime Minister.

In response, the BJP launched a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, holding them accountable for the actions of their supporters. The party expressed outrage, stating that such "depravity" had never been witnessed in politics and that the yatra had crossed all boundaries of insult, hatred, and vulgarity. The BJP further accused Gandhi and Yadav of previously humiliating the people of Bihar by inviting leaders who had allegedly insulted the state. The BJP also claimed that the opposition leaders were now resorting to having people hurl abuses at the Prime Minister's late mother out of desperation. The BJP asserted that the language used was so offensive that it could not be repeated on a public platform and that even if Rahul and Tejashwi apologized profusely, the people of Bihar would not forgive them for this transgression. Union Minister of State Nityanand Rai also criticized the opposition leaders in response to the incident.

Rahul Gandhi's "Voter Adhikar Yatra," a 1,300-km, 16-day march across Bihar, aims to highlight alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state. During the yatra, Gandhi has accused Prime Minister Modi and the BJP-led NDA government of attempting "vote theft" and betraying the country's youth by destroying employment opportunities. He has also alleged that the Modi government and the Election Commission are colluding to undermine citizens' constitutional right to vote. Addressing a rally in Bhagalpur, Gandhi claimed that Modi remained silent on alleged irregularities in the Maharashtra and Karnataka elections, as well as the crisis in Manipur, despite visiting Bihar earlier that day.

In conjunction with Rahul Gandhi, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin joined the "Voter Adhikar Yatra" and criticized the deletion of names from electoral rolls, deeming it "worse than terrorism". Priyanka Gandhi also participated in the yatra, accompanying her brother until Muzaffarpur.

The BJP has retaliated against Rahul Gandhi's accusations, with party spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia asserting that Prime Minister Modi is "pure like the holy waters of the Ganga". Bhatia accused the Gandhi family of being the most corrupt and labeled them as "thieves," reminding Rahul Gandhi of how his "chowkidar chor hai" slogan against PM Modi had backfired.

The "Voter Adhikar Yatra" is scheduled to conclude on September 1 with a rally at Patna's Gandhi Maidan. The yatra and the controversies surrounding it highlight the intense political rivalry and accusations of impropriety that characterize the current political climate in India.
