A 23-year-old woman from Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, has died after allegedly being forced to drink acid by her in-laws over dowry demands. The victim, identified as Gulfiza, was married to Parvez about a year ago in Kalakheda village. Her family alleges that she was being harassed by her in-laws, who were demanding ₹10 lakh in cash and a car.

According to police reports, the accused allegedly forced Gulfiza to consume acid on August 11. She was admitted to a hospital in critical condition and died on Thursday after battling for her life for 17 days. Following a complaint by her father, Furkan, a case has been registered against seven people. The accused are Parvez, Asim, Gulista, Monish, Saif, Dr Bhura, and Babbu. They have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police have stated that provisions related to dowry death will be added once the post-mortem report is received, and all accused will be arrested.

This incident occurs shortly after another dowry death case in Greater Noida, where a 26-year-old woman, Nikki Bhati, was allegedly set ablaze at her in-laws' home in Sirsa village. Police have arrested four members of her husband's family, including her husband, father-in-law, and brother-in-law. Nikki Bhati's sister, Kanchan, claimed that Nikki was attacked on August 21 by her husband, Vipin, who allegedly doused her with a flammable liquid and set her on fire. Kanchan also alleged that she was beaten unconscious during the incident. Vipin, his parents, and his brother Rohit have been arrested and charged with murder.

These incidents highlight the persistent issue of dowry-related violence against women in Uttar Pradesh. Demands for cash, cars, and other lavish gifts continue to be a motive for harassment, torture, and even murder. The Uttar Pradesh State Women's Commission is involved in investigating these cases and providing support to the victims' families. Authorities have assured that thorough investigations will be conducted, and strict action will be taken against the accused.
