Noida and other parts of Delhi-NCR are experiencing heavy rainfall, leading to disruptions and alerts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD has issued warnings of continued rainfall in the coming days.

Weather Alerts and Forecasts The IMD has issued an orange alert for Noida, predicting heavy rains and thunderstorms. An orange alert has been issued for several parts of Delhi including North Delhi, New Delhi, Central Delhi, South Delhi, South East Delhi, North East Delhi, East Delhi and Shahdara, forecasting moderate to intense rains accompanied by thunderstorms. A yellow alert has been issued for West Delhi, North West Delhi and South West Delhi where light to moderate showers are expected. The weather agency has advised residents to be cautious, especially in low-lying areas that are prone to waterlogging. On Wednesday, the forecast includes generally cloudy skies with the possibility of light to moderate rain or thundershowers in some areas. Temperatures are expected to range from 31 to 33 degrees Celsius for the maximum and around 22.8 degrees Celsius for the minimum.

Disruptions and Closures Due to the heavy rainfall, schools in Noida and Ghaziabad remained closed on September 3 to ensure the safety of students and staff. District administrations across NCR have directed private and government schools to suspend classes for a day. Some institutions may conduct online classes to avoid academic loss.

Traffic and Waterlogging Heavy rains have caused waterlogging in several areas of Noida, including Sector 62, Sector 18, and parts of Greater Noida, which has slowed down road traffic and raised safety concerns for commuters. There was heavy traffic congestion on the Delhi-Greater Noida Expressway. The Delhi Traffic Police have issued advisories due to waterlogging in parts of Delhi and have temporarily closed the Old Iron Bridge. Traffic diversions have been put in place at Hanuman Setu, Bela Road (behind Red Fort), and both sides of the Old Iron Bridge.

Yamuna River The heavy rain has caused the Yamuna River to swell, with water levels rising above the danger mark. The water level of Yamuna River has risen, flowing above the danger level following incessant rainfall. Authorities are monitoring the Yamuna water levels closely, as heavy rains in the NCR and upstream areas could cause further flooding in low-lying zones. The Old Loha Pul (Iron Bridge) has been closed as a result. More than 600 people were evacuated on Tuesday as the Yamuna swelled dangerously close to the danger mark in Noida. Relief camps have been set up in Yamuna Khadar and Mayur Vihar Phase-I as the water level of River Yamuna rises.

Delhi Rainfall Statistics Delhi has recorded over 1,000 mm of rainfall this season, surpassing its annual average of 774 mm on August 14, which is the fastest since 2021. August alone saw 400.1 mm of rain, which is 72% above the long-period average, making it the wettest August in the city since 2010.
